You might've been in the same situation, but my garage door remote control is a little too trigger happy. Just by tilting it to the side it shoots a signal. This has resulted in the door going up after I've closed it and going down when I plan to have it open.
Instead of investing in a brand new remote, I'm considering to clone the remote using cheap technology and potentially add some more features like remote operation and auto-close if it is open for more than 10 minutes at night for example.
I think about mounting an ESP32 microcontroller with an external antenna or a flipper-zero in the garage. To operate it I would have it listen for a message from home assistant (mqtt) or similar. I could either add a strategically placed distance sensor, magnet sensor or camera to determine if the garage is open or closed every 10 minutes and then send that back to the home assistant setup. Then I can control the setup by installing ZeroTier on the machine that is running home assistant.
If you find yourself facing the same dilemma or have made your own solution I'd love to have a talk about it. Start by sending me a message at post@topheim.com.
I'll keep you updated if I end up working on it!
